Panic over countrywide hunt: Over 6000 nabbed in name of anarchy

Joynal Abedin Khan :Insecurity and panic have been growing among the people due to the ‘countrywide special drive’ by the law enforcers in the past several days.The leaders and the activists of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam and the accused in different cases have gone into hiding to avert the arrest. The drive began on Friday and will be continued till further instruction to the law enforcers by the authorities concerned.So far, over 6000 people, including BNP-Jamaat men, were arrested in last six days across the country. The ongoing drive will foil organizing big events or programmes ahead of observing of ‘anti-democracy day’ by BNP-led opposition on Janury 5, they said.They also said that the partial motive of the drive aimed at was tackling the use of arms and ill power during local polls. In Chittagong, police arrested 581 people, including 132 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir from different upazilas of the district.In Bogra, law enforcers arrested 264 people, including 35 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat. In Satkhira, police arrested 172 people, including 20 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir. In Chapainababganj, police in separate drives arrested 134 people, including 12 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat. In Jamalpur, at least 149 people were arrested in the district during the ongoing drive. In Khulna, police in separate drives arrested 115 people, including 45 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat. In Faridpur, police in separate drives arrested 93 people, including 12 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat.In Noakhali, police in separate drives arrested 76 people, including 10 leaders and activists of Jamaat. In Brahmanbaria, at least 107 people were arrested in the district during the ongoing drive. In Rangpur, police in separate drives arrested 190 people, including 61 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat. In Nilphamari, police in separate drives arrested 95 people, including 36 leaders and activists of BN-Jamaat. In Laskipur, 115 people were arrested in the district.In Meherpur, at least 129 people were arrested in the district.In Bagerhat, at least 97 people were arrested in several upazilas of the district. In Gazipur, over 75 people were arrested in the four upazilas of the districts. In Dinajpur, at least 145 people were arrested in the district. In Jhenaidah, over 59, people were arrested in all upazilas of the district. In Rajshai, 34 pwople were arrested in nine upazilass of the the district. In Sirajganj, police in separate drives arrested 89 people.In Feni, police arrested 154 people, including 23 activists Jamaat.In Mymensingh, police in separate drives arrested 113 people from different upazilas of the district.In Pirojpur, at least 132 people were arrested, including 23 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat. In Narail, police in separate drives arrested 97 people in the district. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said onWednesday that law enforcers conducted the regular drive following the detective based on the report of detectives and arrested the people on charge of creating anarchy across the country. Ha said that the regular drive will be continued to arrest the miscreants. ‘The special drive continues…We want to ensure safety of all people in the country,’ said Assistant Inspector General of Police (media and public relations) Nazrul Islam.He declined to provide the number of people arrested in the past three days but said, ‘more than one thousand people were arrested across the country.’
