More than 32,000 examinees of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were absent from attending two papers in the last two days under nine Education Boards.
On the first day of the SSC and equivalent examinations on Thursday, a total of 16,627 examinees were absent in the Bangla-I paper, while 16,322 were absent in the Bangla-II paper on Saturday.
On Thursday’s exams, a total of 3711 examinees were absent in Dhaka Board followed by Cumilla Board where 2866 were absent, 1829 in Jashore Board, 1719 in Rajshahi Board, 1696 in Dinajpur Board, 1683 in Chattogram Board, 1119 in Sylhet Board, 1002 in Mymensingh Board, and 992 in Barishal Board.
On the Bangla-II paper, the highest number of unattended examinees was 3821 in Dhaka Board followed by Cumilla 2110 examinees while in Dinajpur 1872, in Jashore 1812, in Rajshahi 1788, in Chattogram 1707, Sylhet 1173, Mymensingh 1042 and Barishal 997.
A total of 15,14,188 examinees attended the first paper examination on Thursday out of the total 15,30815 examinees this year. Such a huge number of absent examinees has created a concern among the concerned authority. The public examinations had been badly affected due to the pandemic Covid-19 for two years.
Expert said that the pandemic has marred the total educational system and students became indifferent to education. Though the government tried to carry on the education over the online platform, it was not accessible for all the students across the country due to economic constraints and other issues.
Besides, many said that during the pandemic, many of the students get engaged in various works to earn for a living while poverty ridden parents got their girls married and after the covid-19 situation.
