A total of 10,650 landless families have been rehabilitated in 61 districts during the last five and a half years under the Climate Victims Rehabilitation Project (CVRP).
The landless families were in 262 cluster villages and around Taka 187 crore were spent for their rehabilitation. This information was revealed at a seminar on ‘Training and Credit Programme in Cluster Village’ at the auditorium of BCS Administration Academy in the city on Thursday. Project Management Unit (PMU) of the project arranged the seminar.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif spoke on the occasion as the chief guest.
Project director M Siraj Uddin Ahmed presided over the seminar while Rector of the Bangladesg Rural Development Board ( BRDB) Shafique Alam Mehedi, Director General Abdul Jalil Miah and Additional Secretary of the Land Ministry M Moazzem Hossain spoke.
Speaking on the occasion, Shamsur Rahman Sharif stressed the need for inclusion of root level and poor people in the country’s mainstream development process for overall development. He called upon all to supplement the government efforts in this regard.
In this context, the minister favoured changed mindset of the policymaker and government officials and employees. Shafiq Alam Mehdi said, “We all the civil servants will have to work together irrespective of party and opinion for the sake of strengthening the bureaucracy.”
The government has successfully implemented the second phase of the Climate Victims Rehabilitation Project (CVRP) with the financial support from the European Union (EU). The CVRP project was undertaken in 2009 as a follow up project of Ideal village project.
