More than 1.10 crore metric tons of potato will be produced in the country in the current fiscal, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury said.
Replying to a written question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11), the Agriculture Minister said Bangladesh secured seventh position in the world in potato production.
She said according to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), 94.74 lakh MT of potato were produced in the country in the last fiscal (2015-16), while the production in the current fiscal (2016-17) would exceed 1.10 crore MT.
Matia Chowdhury said the government has taken various steps for accelerating this advancement.
