Employees recruited through outsourcing of a 250-bed hospital in Manikganj have staged a human chain on the hospital premises on Tuesday morning demanding their six months’ arrear salaries.
Ayah Shabana Akhter, a worker of the hospital, said, ‘I worked at the risk of my life during the Corona crisis. But I have not been paid for six long months.
I am living an inhuman life with my family because We have repeatedly informed the contractors and the hospital authorities, but get no result. We want the government’s intervention in this regard.
Pharmacist Md. Ripon Mia said, ‘Other permanent employees are receiving regular salaries at the end of the month. Working in the same position, we have to go door to door for salary at the end of the month. We demand that this inequality to be eliminated by making our jobs permanent. ‘
Other speakers at the human chain also similarly demanded job security with payment of arrears in a very short time.
Manikganj 250-bed hospital caretaker Arshad Ullah told The New Nation, ‘The contracting company got the job of hiring employees in 2017.
Although the work order was extended in 2018 and 2019, it has not yet been approved by the ministry. That is why the contractor has not been able to pay the salaries of the employees as it has not received the bill.
However, documents have been sent by the hospital for approval. I hope this problem will be solved through contracting efforts. ‘ ABS Khan Swapan, the owner of the contracting company, could not be reached for comment.
