“Our target is to beat Afghanistan, then to play in semis”, said Sabina Khatun, Captain of Bangladesh National Women’s Football team. Sabina spoke at a press conference at the conference room of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) House on Saturday. Head Coach of Bangladesh National Football team Golam Rabbani Choton, Chairperson of Women’s Wing of BFF Mahfuza Akter Kiron, Head of Sports and Welfare Department of Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn also spoke at the conference. Walton Group is the sponsor of Bangladesh National Football team, which will take part in the SAFF Women’s Championship scheduled to be held at Shiliguri in India from tomorrow.
Sanina said, ” I hope we shall do well in the tournament. We shall give our cent percent effort in the competition. We took part in the two-month long training camp. We have come out from our mistakes by participating in coaching camp.”
Goalam Rabbani Choton said, ” We shall try to achieve better result than previous year’s competition. Our team consists of senior players and junior players. My girls will try to play attacking football. They will compete against our stronger opponents India.”
Mahfuza Akter Kiron said, ” Our team will try to present better brand of football. I hope our team will play in semi-final after beating Afghanistan. Then our team will play in the final.”
FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn said, ” Our team may not clinch championship title. But they can be the runners-up of the meet.”
Dawn declared that if Bangladesh National Women’s Football team could emerge as the champions, the members of the team (including officials) would be awarded a 10 CFT refrigerator each.
He also added that if Bangladesh National Women’s Football team could become the runners-up of the meet, the members of the team (including officials) would be given a 32 inches LED television each.
A total of seven teams splitting into two groups will participate in SAFF Women’s Championship. Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan are in Group-B, while Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan are in Group-A.
Top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals on January 2.
The winners of the two semis will face each other in the final on January 4.
