Oriental painting exhibition at Zainul Gallery, DU

A weeklong oriental painting exhibition titled ‘5th Oriental Pianting Exhibition’ orgnaised by Oriental Painting Study Group (OPSG) is going on at Zainul Gallery 1 and 2 of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Dhaka University now.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest on March 17.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas and Managing Director of Mahin Group Abdullah Al Mahmud attended the inaugural ceremony as special guests on the occasion.
Prof Syed Abul Barq Alvi, Dean (acting) of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University presided over the ceremony.
In the programme, participant the guests handed over certificates among participants of the weeklong wash painting workshop that was held last year.
Later Abdullah Al Mahmud declared a grant of Tk 5 lakhs for flourishing oriental painting in the country.
The exhibition is featuring artworks by 47 contemporary oriental painters including the participants and trainers of the workshop.
It may be mentioned that the OPSG conducted a weeklong wash painting workshop last year.
While talking about the arrangement of the exhibition an Associate Professor of the Department of Oriental Art of DU Dr Malay Bala, also curator of the exhibition and convener of OPSG, told this correspondent, “The artworks being displayed at the exhibition have conspicuous connotations and reverberation of the opulent heritage and trend of oriental painting style.”
The purpose of holding this exhibition is to inspire both artists and art connoisseurs in searching their cultural roots and to nurture their very own art heritage. OPSG aims to open up a new horizon of Oriental Painting in Bangladesh, he also said.
The exhibition will remain open from 11:00am to 8:00pm daily till March 23. n
