Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF)
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed yesterday between two development organizations to eliminate child labour in the dried fish sector, which is mainly located in Cox’s Bazaar, says a press release. Under the Child Labor Improvements in Bangladesh (CLIMB) Project of Winrock International, the MoU was signed between INCIDIN Bangladesh and Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) at a ceremony in the city. AKM Masud Ali, Executive Director of INCIDIN, and Abdus Shahid Mahmood, Director of BSAF, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at a restaurant in Dhanmondi in the capital. Under the MoU, INCIDIN, a national development organization working for ensuring rights of children, and BSAF will strengthen the capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for raising awareness and their participation in advocacy to eliminate child labour and forced child labour in the sector. The ultimate aim of the MoU valid till 2020 is to have an advocacy platform under the line of UN 2030 agenda of SDGs. AHM Zaman Khan, Project Director of CLIMB Project, Winrock, and other officials of the two organizations were present on the occasion. Dried fish sector in Bangladesh practices some of worst forms of child labour. Poverty drives parents to engage their children to increase household incomes, but the children are at risk of health hazard and left out of the education.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Dhaka (DU) and Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) was signed yesterday at the VC’s lounge of DU to promote education, research and training on oceanography as well as protect environment and marine resources in the country. Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and Director General of BIMRAD Commodore Kazi Emdadul Haq BN (Retd) singed the MoU on behalf of their respective institution, says a press release. VC of DU Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science Prof. Dr Sadeka Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, Chairman of the Department of Oceanography Md. Jobaer Alam, Prof Dr Imtiaz Ahmed of the Department of International Relations, Acting Registrar Md. Enamuzzaman and some other higher officials from BIMRAD were present on this occasion.
According to the MoU, DU and BIMRAD will exchange information and materials to strengthen maritime research in the country. They will also conduct joint research programs and jointly organize seminar, symposium, conference, workshop and training programs on oceanography. Besides, they will work together to promote maritime sector in Bangladesh and formulate strategy in this regard.
