Bangladesh Students’ Union

Bangladesh Students’ Union central committee has announced its 31-member Dhaka City Committee with Johorlal Roy,Foyzur Mehidi and Mong Shoi Shoi as President, General Secretary and Organising Secretary respectively on Monday, says a press release. The new committee was declared at the 39th council at Moitry Auditorium. Other office-bearers are : Vice-presidents -Tahosin Mallik, Maria Ferdous, Shahariar Ibrahim , Morshed Halim , Anupam Ami, Jayadul Islam , Assistant General Secy-Billal Hossain, BM Jubaer Prodhan , Pritom Fakir , Treasurer-Al Amin Hossain, Office-Secretary – Shamom Hossain, Education and Research Secy- Shahadat Hossain , School student Affairs Secy-Mehedi Hasan Rony , Press and Publicity Secy -Saing Saing Pru, Science and Technology Secy-Asif Zaman, Cultural Secy -Tahmid and Executive members are : Dipok Shil, Salman Rahat, Sharna Akter and Mehedi Hasan Sumon .

National Geographic Society

Ms. Taylor Maddalene, Manager of National Geographic Society in USA called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC)Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman on Tuesday at the latter’s office of the university. Director of the Center for Advanced research in Sciences of DU Prof. Dr.Golam Mohammad Bhuiyan and Professor of the Department of Zoology Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam were present on this occasion. During the meeting they discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative research programs on wild animal, fisheries, oceanography, environment and disaster management between Dhaka University and National Geographic Society. They stressed the need for making the world free from all sorts of pollution. They also discussed about signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DU and National Geographic Society to conduct joint collaborative research programs in this regard.

ICMAB

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) yesterday organized a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme on “Aligning tax policy – A Case study on Bangladesh” in the Capital’s ICMAB Bhaban. Member (Tax Policy) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Kanon Kumar Roy attended the programme as chief guest presided over by ICMAB President M Abul Kalam Mazumdar, said an ICMAB press release. Femke Groothuis, Founder and President of The Ex’tax Project, The Netherlands spoke on the topic as the keynote speaker. Deputy Secretary of Finance Division Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, Member of Dhaka Taxes Bar Association Advocate Maruf Hasan, and Vice-President of The Ex’tax Project, The Netherlands Peter Gersen were present as discussants. CEO & Managing Director of IDLC Finance Limited Arif Khan was present as moderator while Vice-Chairman of Seminar & Conference Committee of ICMAB Md Kausar Alam offered the vote of thanks in the programme. Later, a good number of professional CMAs took part in the question and answer session.

Govinda Dev Centre of Philosophical Research

Academics on Wednesday paid a rich tribute to martyred intellectual Dr Govinda Chandra Dev, a pioneer in the country’s philosophical studies, as a seminar on the life and works of the prominent philosopher was held on Dhaka University (DU) campus. Govinda Dev Centre of Philosophical Research organised a memorial seminar titled ‘One-World Thought’ at RC Majumder Arts Auditorium at DU. Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman addressed the function as the chief guest while Philosophy department Professor Pradeep Kumar Roy gave the memorial lecture on the topic. Scholar Gobinda Chandra Dev, a Professor of Philosophy Department of the university, was brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces on the night of March 25 in 1971 at the provost residence of Jagannath Hall of DU. Paying tribute to the memory of GC Dev, the VC urged the students to go ahead taking lessons from his work and life.
