A discussion on ‘Mahan Ekush in establishing rights to people: Responsibilities to build prosperous Bangladesh” organized on Thursday by the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) at its auditorium in the city’s Kakrail. Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif was present as the chief guest. While addressing Sharif said Jamaat-e-Islam is the main enemy of Islam in the country.”Jamaat is misleading people in the name of Islam and fighting against democratic ideology, humanity and Islam,” he said.
Cultural personality Hasan Imam spoke at the function as the chief discussant with IDEB President AKM Hamid in the chair. Sharif said the Bangalee nation have two major achievements in the last century, one is Independence of Bangladesh and establishing Bangla as the state language and its recognition as International Mother Language Day. He said movement of Bangalee nationalism had initiated from Language Movement and it got momentum through War of Liberation under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Olama Mashaikh Oikya Jote
A discussion on ‘Threat of Al Qaeda : Militancy-Free Bangladesh’ organized recently on the occasion of International Mother Language Day and ‘Amor Ekushey’ by Bangladesh Olama Mashaikh Oikya Jote at the National Press Club in the city with Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury as the chief guest. While speaking Iqbal said ‘Militancy cannot go along with the spirit of Ekushey (21 February, 1952) and the Liberation War’. Presided over by Jote President Maulana Abdul Halim Siraji, the meeting was also addressed by Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) former President and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Special Correspondent Omar Faruq, Human Rights Chairman Syed Afzal Baker and freedom fighter Mostafa Hossain Chowdhury. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said the people would not forgive those destroying life and property in the country through terrorism and anarchy in the name of religion. He called upon all to be united to resist militant activities of Al- Qaeda and inspired with the ideals of Islam to build the country in the spirit of Ekushey and the Liberation War.
