A discussion titled ‘From Shahid Asad to Mass Upsurge’ organised by Workers Party of Bangladesh was held at the Jatiya Press Club. President of the organisation and former minister Rashed Khan Menon was present as the chief guest in the programme held on Friday. While speaking Menon regretted that the history of the 1969 Mass Upsurge is not being publicized as a large-scale campaign attaching much importance to this historical milestone. “The self-sacrifice of Shahid Asad and the history of the Mass Upsurge have not yet included in the text books”, he added. Menon said the history, created by the sacrifice of Asad’s life, brought together workers, peasants, intellectuals and all others under the same row and Bangladesh emerged as an independent country as a sequel to the events of history, he further added. Politburo member of the party Comrade Kamrul Ahsan moderated the event. The function was also addressed, among others, by writer-researcher and columnist Syed Abul Maksud, cultural activist Mamunur Rashid and party politburo member Comrade Anisur Rahman Mallik.
