Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History
Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World, an exhibition created by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) in Washington, D.C, was held at the ICCDR,B in Dhaka on Saturday, says a press release. The three-year exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the devastating 1918 influenza pandemic, which killed 50-100 million people- between 3-5% of the world’s population at the time. The aim of this exhibition is to raise awareness on how infectious disease affect humans, animals, and their environment- why infectious diseases emerge, how they spread, and where to look for the next one. In partnership with the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) is launching this exhibit to at least 25 countries around the world- in a more mobile form. HGHI have chosen Bangladesh as an exhibit country and select Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP) to assist HGHI in bringing the exhibit Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected Worldto Bangladesh.

Experts at a seminar here on Saturday laid emphasis on concerted efforts of all to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Both government and non-government actors should work together in a planned way to replicate the successes like fulfilling the targets of Millennium Development Goals (MDG), they told the seminar titled “Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) at the Institution of Engineers of Bangladesh (IEB) here. Bangladesh Economics Association (BEA) organized the seminar with its chairman Prof Dr Abul Barkat in the chair. Former Chief Justice M Tofazzal Islam addressed the seminar as the chief guest while Chairman of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Dr Qazi Kholoquzzaman Ahmad presented the keynote paper. BEA General Secretary Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed, teachers, economists and officials of different organization concerned, among others, attended the seminar. In his keynote presentation, Dr Kholoquzzaman said all should be included in the process of achieving SDGs as access of all is prerequisite to fulfilling the targets.
