Honda Foundation
Bangladesh Honda Private Limited (BHL) is planning to give the young engineers and scientist’s (Y-E-S) award to the undergraduate students for the first time in Bangladesh. BHL plans to introduce Y-E-S Award in Bangladesh through Honda Foundation to encourage and support young engineers and scientists of the country. BHL has shown the interest at a meeting with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at UGC yesterday. A 5-member delegation led by Prof Dr. Atsushi SUNAMI, Vice President, National Graduate Institute for policy Studies, Japan & Executive Director of Honda Foundation met UGC Chairman. The other members of the delegation were Kazuko Matsumoto, Honorary Adviser, Japan Education and Research Support Foundation & Executive Director, Honda Foundation, Yuichiro ISHII, Managing Director & CEO of BHL, Jamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Advisor, BHL and Md. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury, Senior Executive, HR & Administration of BHL. Dr. Atsushi said that Honda Foundation will give the award to the undergraduate students in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. UGC has made the facilitator for fostering future leader in the science and technology field. “The value of each scholarship will be US $3,000. It will also provide opportunity to earn graduate degree for the Y-E-S awardees in Japan,” he said. UGC Chairman said, “Bangladesh has a lot of quality engineering graduates. Our graduates will be benefitted from the opportunity and they will learn a lot of things from our developing partner Japan.” UGC Members Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali; Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Additional Director, ICC, Md. Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Additional Director IMCT Division and Md. Shahin Siraj, Deputy Secretary, Administration Division, UGC, were present, says a press release.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) Volunteers, engaged in human welfare, started working from August 12 to raise awareness among the pedestrians on the road and help traffic police at important intersection points of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) traffic division marking safe road and traffic week .”Volunteers are distributing leaflets among pedestrians… They are working relentlessly to create awareness on safe road,” said Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Youth and Volunteer Division Director S M Ahmad here on Monday. 44 expert Red Crescent volunteers will work in association with traffic police in 11 points in the capital to help traffic police to reinforce discipline on roads and highways on the occasion of safe road and traffic week on invitation of DMP Police (Traffic) till today, a BRCS release added. Those 11 points are Kamalapur railway station, Malibagh, Rampur Bridge, Vijay Sarani, Karwan Bazar, Mohakhali, Satarasta, Magbazar Chowrasta, Kakrail point, Shantinagar and Banglamotor intersections.

Social Sciences Faculty, JU
A seminar under the auspices of Social Sciences Faculty was held on Monday on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus here. JU Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest at the seminar room of Social Sciences Faculty. Presided over by Dean of Social Sciences Faculty Professor Rasheda Akhter, Professor Al Mashud Hasanuzzaman of Government and Politics department and Professor Abul Kalam of Urban and Regional Planning department addressed the function as special guests, among others. Teachers of the faculty presented research papers at the seminar divided into three sessions. The University Grants Commission funded it.
