Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh
Chairman of Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh and Director of Japan Bangladesh Hospital Sardar A Razzaque have been given the World Down Syndrome Day Award for his contributions to creating awareness on genetic disorder. Sardar Razzaque received the award from President of Down Syndrome International, UK Venessa dos Santos at a gala function in the 13th World Down Syndrome Congress held in Glasgow, Scotland recently. This was for the first time any individual or organisation of Bangladesh was given the World Down Syndrome Day Award. Sardar Razzaque played a pioneering role in observing the World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March 2014, the 9th in the world and the first in Bangladesh. In its continuation, he constituted a platform named “The Down Syndrome Parent Support Group” comprising Down syndrome children and their guardians. Razzaque later formed the Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh and through these activities, Bangladesh was linked with the world Down syndrome community. In recognition to his efforts, the Down Syndrome International honoured him with the World Down Syndrome Day Award, says a press release.
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
The inaugural ceremony of a three-day research workshop on communication for development was held at hotel Amari Dhaka in the city yesterday. University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) jointly are organizing the workshop to conduct research on child rights in higher educational institutions of Bangladesh. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan graced the function as the Chief Guest. Ms. Sheema Sen Gupta, Deputy Country Representative, UNICEF, Bangladesh, spoke on the occasion as special guest. Ms. Neha Kapil, C4D Section Chief, UNICEF, Bangladesh and Dr Md Fakhrul Islam, Additional Director, ICC, UGC, among others, spoke. Academics from Ohio University, 11 public and private universities of Bangladesh, officials from UGC and UNICEF, among others were present.
Internet Society Bangladesh
 Md. Nadir Bin Ali, Head of IT and Deputy Director of Daffodil International University has been elected as vice president of Internet Society, Bangladesh Chapter. Mr Shuvashis Panigrahi, Development Manager of Internet Society Asia Pacific Chapter gave this information through a press release. He was the chief election commissioner of this election held on August 6 2018. It may be mentioned here that there are more than140 chapter of Internet Society all over the world. Dr Hafiz Mohammad Hasan Babu, Pro- VC of National University was elected as the president of new committee while Mohammad Kawsar Uddin, Senior Reporter, the Daily Sangbad was elected as General Sectary. Besides, Md. Abdul Aual, Data Center Operations Manager, LICT Projects of BCC was elected as Vice President and Md Nasir Firoz, System Engineer of Flora Ltd was elected as Treasurer.
