Bangladesh Students’ Union
A rally organised by Bangladesh Students’ Union was held in front of Kalabhaban of Dhaka University on Monday. In the rally the speakers demanded 16% allocation separately for the education sector in the proposed budget. After the rally a big procession paraded different streets in the city and terminated in front of the Kalabhaban. The programme was addressed, among others, by Organizing Secretary of the Kendriya Sangsad of the organisation Sumon Sengupto, Central Assistant General Secretary Tuhin Kanti Das, Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Rita and Organizing Secretary of Mahanagar Sangsad Jawaharlal Roy. The rally was presided over by the leader of the organisation Laki Aktar.
Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee
A discussion on ‘Malaria: Present Scenario and Future Plan’ organised jointly by Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) and the daily Samakal at Spectra Convention Center in the city on Tuesday. Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim was present as the chief guest. While speaking Nasim said the country is likely to be malaria-free by 2020. The National Malaria Control Programme has achieved significant progress in reducing the burden of malaria and now it plans to eradicate the disease by 2020, he said. ‘To make the country free from the disease, a strong political commitment is essential with mass awareness and social communication,’ he added. The discussion was addressed, among others, by Programme Head of WASH and Malaria of BRAC Dr Moktadir Kabir, Director General of Health Services Dr Deen Mohammad Nurul Huq, Executive Director of daily Samakal Mustafi Shafi and representative from World Health Organisation Dr Kamar Rezwan.
