Online Press Unity
A rally organised by Online Press Unity was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Monday. In the programme the speakers demanded immediate withdrawal of false cases filed against Editor of the Bangladesh Protidin Nayeem Nizam and Editor of the daily Bhorer Kagoj Shyamal Dutta. They said this in a meeting organised in memory of journalists who were killed in terrorists attack. The speakers also urged the government to take necessary steps to stop attack and filing cases against journalists. The function was addressed, among others, by Editor of Ajker Suryadoy Khondkar Mozammel Haque, Founder of the unity and Chairman of Natundhara Bangladesh Momin Mehedi, Member of the unity, Denmark branch Mashiur Rahman Shaon and General Secretary of the unity, Dhaka Mahanagar Dakshin Khorshed Alam. Secretary General of the unity Dr Noorjahan Nira conducted the programme. Vice-Chairman of the organisation Shanta Farzana presided over the event.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
Blankets were distributed among some cold-affected poor people of different unions of Gaibandha district at a ceremony organised by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), district unit on Monday. Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon addressed the function and formally distributed blankets among the distressed and the poor people as the chief guest. Executive member of the unit Sultana Islam Doly and other officials including journalists were present on the occasion. Chairman of Gaibandha Zila Parishad Ataur Rahman Sarker who is also the chairman of BDRCS, district unit said earlier, the unit distributed cash Taka 4000 and a packet of 8 sorts of vegetable seeds to 6010 flood affected families each last month.
Apart from it, the unit also disbursed 2 bundle of colour corrugated iron sheet to each of the 483 flood victims of the district during the time, the chairman also said. Secretary of the organisation Rezaul Karim Reza presided over the event.
