A concert demanding election of Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JUCSU) organised by JU Cultural Alliance (JUCA) was held on Sunday at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha.on the university campus. Speakers at the programme urged the university authority to take initiatives for executing JUCSU immediately and ensure democratic environment on the campus. JU Teachers’ Association Secretary Professor Farid Ahmed, Professor Mirza Taslima Sultana and Associate Professor Asnisa Parvin Joli addressed the programme, among others. Besides, among the student representatives, former JUCA President Mahi Mahfuz, Vice President Musfiq Us Salehin, General Secretary Nazmul Hossain, Bangladesh Student Union of JU unit President Imran Nadim, Student Front President Masuk Anik Helal also spoke on the occasion. A number of bands from Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi University performed at the programme with the university’s local singers. Over 600 teachers, students, cultural, social and political activists from different public universities attended the event and expressed solidarity with the demand.

An advocacy meeting on ‘Creating Mass Awareness to Fight Tuberculosis’ organised by National Anti-TB Association of Bangladesh (NATAB), Rajshahi unit was held at SK Food World Restaurant in the city. In the programme held recently the speakers have underscored the need for a concerted effort to create awareness among mass people for building a tuberculosis-free society.They said TB is no more a killer disease as its early detection, proper and timely diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures are found effective in fighting the disease. Rajshahi Divisional Director of Health Dr Abdus Sobhan addressed the meeting as the chief guest with NATAB local unit President Advocate Golam Rabbani in the chair. Assistant Director of Health Dr Ismat Ara and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat also spoke on the occasion. NATAB local unit General Secretary Advocate Shahinul Haque Moon illustrated the aims and objectives of the meeting.Dr Abdus Sobhan said the TB is an infectious disease that usually spreads out through breathing of the affected patients. “It is no more a deadly disease and it is fully cured if the affected patients take proper treatment,” he said.
