Nat’l Math Olympiad Sylhet region held at SUST

The seventh National Mathematics Olympiad for honour’s level students in Sylhet region was held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Saturday.
University’s Mathematics department organised the Olympiad with the help of AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation and Bangladesh Mathematics Association. SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuyan inaugurated the day-long programme as chief guest at handball ground on the campus in the morning while Treasure Prof Elias Uddin Biswas and department chief Prof Anowarul Islam were present among others. Later, an examination contest on different topics of mathematics held at Academic Building ‘C’ in the afternoon.
Auto-rickshaw factory gutted in Gazipur
GAZIPUR: An auto-rickshaw factory was gutted in a fire at Barobari area in the city on Monday noon. Additional Director of Gazipur Fire Station Aktaruzzaman said a fire broke out at Madina Autos, an auto-rickshaw factory of the area, around 12pm and quickly engulfed the entire factory as well as adjoining shops. On information, four fire fighting units from Gazipur and Tongi rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after one hour’s frantic efforts. By the time the fire was brought under control, at least 100 auto-rickshaws in the factory and two shops were completely gutted. The owner of the factory claimed losses caused by the fire could be more than Tk two corers, reports UNB.
Nandail mayor arrested

Police arrested Nandail municipality mayor SM Azizul Islam from upazila parishad area in the district on Monday morning on sabotage charges. The arrestee is also a local leader of BNP. Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station, said tipped-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Azizul at about 9:30 am. Azizul is accused in several cases including for planning subversive activities, the OC added.
3 arrested with arms, ammo in C’nawabganj

Police in a drive arrested three persons and recovered three foreign made pistols, six magazines and 20 rounds of bullet from a Dhaka-bound bus at Israil crossing area under Shibganj upazila of the district last night. The arrestees are bus driver Jony, 28, resident of Hujrapur in the district town, helper Rubel Hossain, 22, of Chatrajitpur village under Shibganj upazila and supervisor Shamim Hossain, 27, resident of Dowlatpur in Kushtia district. On a tip-off, a team of police from Shibganj thana intercepted the Dhaka-bound bus of RP Paribahan on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway of the area at about 11 am, said officer-in-charge of Shibganj thana M M Moinul Islam.
Bijoy Mela begins in Chandpur
CHANDPUR : A month-long fair, styled ‘Bijoy Mela’, began at Hasan Ali Government High School ground of the district town on Monday aiming to uphold the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War. Former foreign minister is expected to formally inaugurate the fair as chief guest in the afternoon on December 1, reports UNB.
