Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE)
The annual meeting of Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE), Greater Dhaka was held at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) campus on Monday, says a press release. Md Monjur Hossain, Secretary, Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU) was the Chief Guest at the meeting. Mrs. Sun Lei, Education Programme Specialist of UNESCO, Dhaka was the Guest of Honour. The meeting was presided over by Prof Dr Md Abdur Rab, VC of IUBAT. In his speech Prof. Dr Mohammed Ataur Rahman, Coordinator of RCE Greater Dhaka introduced RCE Greater Dhaka activities to the audience and described it as the pioneer organization for sustainable development and development of ESD-skilled human resources as immediate resources for achieving the 17 Goals and 169 targets of SDG 2030. He said that RCE Greater Dhaka is the only RCE in Bangladesh among 158 RCEs in the world. He pointed out that RCE Host, the IUBAT has mandatory ESD course for all undergraduates; established IUBAT Green campus, WWOOF-World Wide opportunity on organic farming, grey-water recycling plant, traditional knowledge compilation and Youth mobilization initiatives. He gratefully acknowledged the role and support of RCE founder Chairperson late Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan to ESD in the university Nurul Haque, President of RCE Greater Dhaka Youth Forum highlighted the yearlong activities of the organization. Later, this youth organization was highly appreciated by the respected guests for their leadership role in the community. Ahsan Rony of Green Savers, partner of RCE Greater Dhaka explained how their organization is doing rooftop gardening in urban areas. Onu Tareq from Bangladesh Bird Club presented the habitat conservation efforts and demonstrated different biodiversity zones in Bangladesh.
Korea International Cooperation Agency
A-three member delegation from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) called on Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, at his office recently, says a press release. Saang Keub LEE, Programme Officer, Economic Development Department, KOICA, led the delegation. Other members of the team were Yoo Jong-wha, Assistant Manager, Southeast Asia and Pacific, KOICA, and Md. Fazle Rabby, Programme Coordinator, KOICA, Bangladesh. Rashedur Rahman, Assistant Professor, University of Dhaka, was also present. During the meeting, the delegation informed Prof Yousuf Ali Mollah that KOICA is willing to establish innovation and entrepreneurship center at Dhaka University. KOICA will gradually set up the Centers at a number of public and private universities of the country.
Prof Mollah assured the delegation that UGC will extend all kinds of support in this regard. Dr Md Khaled, Secretary, UGC, Dr Md. Fakhrul Islam, Additional Director, International Co-operation & Collaboration, UGC and Md Omar Faruque, Additional Director (PR), UGC, among others, were present during the meeting.
