Bangladesh Khetmajur Samity
A demonstration organised by Bangladesh Khetmajur Samity was staged all over the country on Sunday in protest against price hike of essentials including rice, wheat and oil. A memorandum was also submitted to the Prime Minister’s office in this regard. The demonstration was held in Comilla, Noakhali, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sherpur and other districts including Dhaka. The programme was addressed, among others, by Central Vice-Presidents of the samity Paresh Kar, Mozaharul Haque and Mrinmoy Mandol, its members Dr Prodip Bhoumik, Khalilur Rahman Bangali and Advocate Rafiqul Islam. The speakers demanded of the government to reduce price of essentials including rice, otherwise they will forge greater movement to press home their demands.
Bangladesh Tanti League
Dhaka district conference of Bangladesh Tanti League was held at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city on Sunday. Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam was present as the chief guest. Whils speaking Quamrul said the next general election would be held under the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. About the proposal for a ‘supportive’ government, the minister said there is no scope to go beyond the guidelines of the constitution for holding the election, so the proposal for formation of the supportive or any other government for the interim period is not permitted by the constitution.The minister said, “The election would be administered by the Election Commission (EC) so a free, fair and neutral election is held under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The BNP will have to participate in the election under her leadership and we hope they would come and participate in that election,” he said. President of the organisation Engineer M Shawkat Ali inaugurated the conference. The function was also addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the organisation Khagendra Chandra Debnath, its Dhaka District (North) General Secretary M M Mosharraf Hossain. Vice- President of Bangladesh Tanti League KM Shahidullah presided over the event.
