A discussion marking the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day organised by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall Unit of Dhaka University was held on the hall premises on Thursday. Food Minister Qamrul Islam was present as the chief guest. While speaking Qamrul said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is trying to make a friendship with Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice (CJ) SK Sinha centering the verdict on 16th amendment of the Constitution. “BNP is also trying to impress CJ by applauding him,” the minister added. Qamrul said, “BNP has created a tension over the verdict in the country and they are praising CJ to make friendship with him. but none will be friend of Awami League (AL), who are trying to be friend of CJ”.”People, who hatched conspiracies in 1971, are still active to foil the upcoming national election” he added. He urged the leaders and activists of BCL to stay alert and work for the party as a ‘vanguard’. The function was addressed, among others, by Provost Prof Rahmat Ullah, Central BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag, General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain, BCL DU unit President Abid Al Hasan and General Secretary Motahar Hossain Prince. Hall unit BCL President Arif Hossain presided over the event.

Telecoms infrastructure company edotco Bangladesh Co. Ltd. provided assistance to the flood affected families in Kurigram district. edotco Bangladesh officials distributed various relief items to over 550 flood-affected families at the Chilmari Upazila Complex in the district. Reciprocating to necessities of the flood-victims, edotco provided dried goods including rice, potatoes, vegetables, cooking oils and spices, said a press release on Thursday. More 16 million people across Nepal, Bangladesh and India have been affected by the flooding, with many being displaced from their homes and agricultural land, the release added. edotco Bangladesh Managing Director Rahul Chaudhary said, “As a responsible corporate entity, we opted to provide support to the residents of Kurigram to ease their recovery in one of the worst natural disasters that has hit Bangladesh this year.”
