BD Folk Arts & Crafts Foundation
A discussion marking Eid Festival organised by Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation was held at the conference room of the foundation at Sonargaon in Narayanganj on Friday. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest. While speaking Quader said the government has taken massive programme to flourish native culture as Bangladesh will exist till its culture is alive. “We will put all-out efforts for development of Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation,” he added. The minister visited the Eid Festival, sculptures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred Sheikh Russell and renowned Jamdani Palli on the premises of the foundation. A cultural function was also held on the occasion. The programme began with the lighting of sacred lamps (Mongol Pradip). Artistes Anisa, Ruma Gope, Chhoto Khalek Dewan, Ostad Solaiman, Pijush Islam and child artiste team Lalon Pathshala performed in the cultural function. Director of the foundation Poet Rabindra Gope presided over the event.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote
A discussion on ‘Budget of Awami League led Government, Budget of making ‘Sonar Bangla’ of Bangabandhu’ organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) was held at Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha on Friday. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said BNP leaders started making meaningless comments regarding budget as their plans to create turbulence across the country over excise duty and uniform VAT has been foiled. “BNP leaders planned to create political unrest over excise duty on bank accounts and uniform VAT. But their plans have been foiled…So they have started making meaningless comments on the budget,” he added. Hasan said, “It is very normal that people will make different comments on budget, but it is not wise to criticise blindly on any matter”. He said if BNP leaders criticise constructively the government will take
their analysis under consideration. The function was also addressed, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of World University Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Choudhury, AL leaders Shamsul Hoque Tuku as well as Talukder Mohammad Yunus and BSJ General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana. Executive President of the jote and actor ATM Shamsuzzaman chaired the programme.
