Bangladesh Cricket team will tour New Zealand in March to play three One Day International (ODI) matches and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches against the hosts on different venues across New Zealand.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh were scheduled to play three-match Test series against Sri Lanka in the island but the tour was postponed due to one-sided decision of Sri Lanka Cricket. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now interested to stage domestic cricket competitions to retain the cricket and the cricketers in the field.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced on Tuesday the itinerary for the Bangladesh Cricket team’s tour in March 2021. Bangladesh Cricket team is expected to leave for New Zealand on February 24.
BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said, “I must compliment New Zealand Cricket for confirming the itinerary which was a real challenge due to the pandemic. This tour now holds added significance as we try to come out of the disruption to cricket caused by Covid-19 together and return to normalcy.”
He said, “We are really looking forward to play in New Zealand. Bangladesh and New Zealand have established a very healthy rivalry in limited overs cricket in recent years and this series promises to be exciting and competitive.”
Bangladesh Cricket team will take on New Zealand in the first ODI at Dunedin on March 13, face the Kiwis in the second ODI at Christchurch on March 17 and meet New Zealand in the third ODI at Wellington on March 20.
Bangladesh will meet New Zealand in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) match at Napier on March 23, face the Kiwis in the second T20I at Auckland on March 26 and take on New Zealand in the third T20I at Hamilton on March 28.
Chief Executive of New Zealand Cricket David White said, “I’m thrilled to be making this announcement today, given the uncertainty and difficulties over the past six or seven months.”
White said New Zealand Cricket was aware of the challenging circumstances many people found themselves in as a consequence of the Covid-19 crisis and would be reducing ticket prices by nearly 50 percent to acknowledge this.
