Nagorik Parishad
A human chain jointly organised by Nagorik Parishad and Feni Adhikar Forum was formed in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Sunday. In the programme the speakers demanded to supply water of the Feni river to Dhaka and Chittagong through pipeline. They also demanded to stop stealing of water of Feni river by India. They said total ownership of Feni river belongs to Bangladesh, whereas India continuously stealing water of this river through installing 25 pumps in the no mans land. They called upon all to be united against this water plundering. The function was addressed, among others, by Convenor of ‘Durniti Protirodh Andolon’ Harun-or-Rashid Khan, Convenor of Feni Adhikar Forum Minhazuddin Ahmed Selim, President of Ganotantrik Party, Dhaka Mahanagar unit Advocate MA Gani, Member Secretary of ‘Nadi Sangskar Andolon’ Bibekananda Baroi and leader of Coalition of Local NGOs, Bangladesh Syed Mohammad Manik. Convenor of Nagorik Parishad Mohammad Shamsuddin presided over the event.
Bangladesh Teachers’ Association
A discussion jointly organised by Bangladesh Teachers’ Association (BTA) and Bangladesh College-University Teachers’ Association (BCUTA) was held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in the city’s Segunbagicha recently. Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Dr Abdur Razzaque was present as the chief guest. While speaking Razzaque said the ruling Awami League did not compromise with Hefajat-e-Islam, saying, “AL never ever compromises with any religiously fanatic group.” “AL would have to step forward following techniques after fighting number of hurdles to maintain the ongoing development and spirit of the Liberation War,” he added. Speaking about the standard of education, Razzaque, a former minister said, “The teachers should play the main role in increasing standard of education.” He advocated for changing the multiple question system and measures for ensuring transparency in appointing teachers at school and college level, saying, “If necessary, a BCS like system should be introduced to this end.” The programme was addressed, among others, by Prof. Mahfuza Khanom, teacher of Economics Department of Dhaka University Prof MM Akash and BCUTA central committee Vice-President Ranjit Kumar Saha. President of BTA Muhammad Abu Bakar Siddique presided over the function.
