Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote
A discussion on the occasion of Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Haisna’s Release Day from the Prison organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) was held on Monday at Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha. Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr. Muhammad Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said the government has a list of troublemakers and arsonists who killed many innocent people in petrol bomb attacks in the name of anti-government movement. He said this while giving counter-remark against BNPChairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s speech that said they (BNP) have the list of the people who resorted to repression on their people. The function was addressed, among others, by AL leaders Advocate Baloram Poddar, Secretary General of Swadhinata ShikshakParishad Principal Shahjahan Alam Saju and General Secretary Shahadat Hossain Toyel. Referring to upcoming general election, the AL leader said, “BNP leaders and workers want to take part in the next general election but their chairperson doesn’t want that.”He stressed on the competitive polls and the active participation of all political parties including BNP in the next parliamentary election. BSJ General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana presided over the programme.
Civil Society Coordination Committee
Members of the Civil Society Coordination Committee (CSCC) at a meeting highly lauded smooth implementation of different development activities in Rangpur. The meeting was arranged with assistance of the City Governance Project of Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) for smoothly running development activities of the city corporation. Members of the CSCC, councilors from all 33 general wards and nine reserved wards, officials of RpCC, representatives from the civil society and professional groups attended the event. Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad delivered welcome speech narrating the goals and objectives of the meeting and role of the civil society members in ensuring smooth implementation of development works in the city.
Superintending Engineer of RpCC Emdad Hossain discussed about the progress and status of the massive ongoing development activities in the city. The function was addressed, among others, by City panel mayor Golam Kabir Kajol, City Councilors Nazrul Islam Dewani, Sekendar Ali, Shafiur Rahman Shafi and Dilara Begum.
