Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajote
A rally organised by Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajote was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Friday. In the programme the speakers bitterly criticized the arrest of Organising Secretary of the Mahajote, Sylhet Division unit Rakesh Roy. They said a vested quarter has made fake ID using fake facebook and through this fake ID the law enforcers nabbed Rakesh under section 57. The speakers demanded immediate cancellation of section 57. They demanded immediate arrest of those involved in this heinous conspiracy. The leaders warned to forge greater movement if their demands are not met immediately. The function was addressed, among others, by Executive President of the organisation Sukriti Mondol, its Chief Coordinator Shiyamal Kumar Roy, Executive Secretary General Palash Kanti Dey, its Vice-President DC Roy, President of Hindu Mahila Jote Mina Devi Chhetri, its senior Vice-President Basanti Das, Chief Coordinator of Jatiya Hindu Juba Mahajote Pankaj Halder, its General Secretary Sudeep Chandra Halder and Chief Coordinator of Chhatra Mahajote Rajesh Naha. President of the organisation Dr Provash Chandra Roy presided over the event.
Int’l Rivers & Blue Planet Initiative
Different organisations including International Rivers and Blue Planet Initiative, Manobadhikar and Poribesh Andolan (MAPA) and Bangladesh Riverine People jointly organised a discussion on ‘International Rivers and Life’ at a hotel in Rangpur recently. In the programme the speakers said the list of river grabbers is being prepared to bring them under the law of the land. “Our river routes was 24 thousand kilometres long during liberation war of our country-the length of the river has already reduced by 18 thousand kilometres to five to six thousand kilometres now and we will never allow to reduce the length anymore,” the speakers added. They said, “Rivers tremendously assisted us during the War of Liberation and we have to work together to save those to ensure uninterrupted water flow and navigability round the year.” The programme was addressed, among others, by Chairman of the National River Commission and former Secretary Atharul Islam , River researchers Mahbub Siddique, Prof Shah Alam, Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, freedom fighter Akbar Ali, Prof Mozahar Ali, Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, ADC (Revenue) KM Maruf Hasan, River Organiser Shamsul Haque. General Secretary of MAPA Bangladesh Dr Abdul Matin, its Organiser Advocate Munir Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Riverine People Sheikh Rokan. Director of the Riverine People Dr Tuhin Wadud presided over the event.
