Communist Party of Bangladesh
A meeting organised jointly by Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) was held on Monday at the office of CPB in the city. In the meeting a decision was taken unanimously to build left democratic alternative to forge a greater movement. The leaders of the organisations bitterly criticized the government efforts to compromise with the fundamentalist-communal forces with a view to remain in power. They said the unity of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Dal with Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and bow down of Bangladesh Awami League to Hefajat-e-Islam hastening communalism in the country. The speakers also criticized the price spiral of the essential commodities. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of BSD Comrade Khalequzzaman, CPB General Secretary Comrade Shah Alam, its Assistant General Secretary Comrade Sazzad Zahir Chandan, central committee members of BSD Comrade Bazlur Rashid Firoj, Comrade Zahedul Haque Milu, CPB Presidium Members Comrade Abdullah Kafi Ratan and Comrade Aniruddha Das Anjan. CPB President Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim presided over the event.
Oxfam Bangladesh
A discussion titled ‘Empowerment of Youths for Works’ organised by Oxfam Bangladesh was held on the 28th instant at CIRDAP Auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road. State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu was present as the chief guest in the programme. While speaking Chunnu said the government is working to create employment opportunities for the youths through enhancing their skills. “The country has a significant number of young population. We have to educate them with IT skills to ensure their better access to job markets,” he added. Chunnu said the government has set targets of stopping hazardous child labour by 2021 and all sorts of child labour by 2025. “We are conducting a survey to identify the exact number of child workers involved in hazardous jobs. After completing the survey, we will take prompt actions to eliminate hazardous child labour by 2021,” he said. Project Manager of Oxfam Bangladesh Joly Noor Haque presented a keynote paper at the discussion. The function was also addressed, among others, by Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry Zahid Ahsan Rasel and General Secretary of All Party Parliamentary Group Shishir Sheel.
