A human chain organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) was formed in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said there is no scope for discussion on the issue of supportive government.”BNP wants to discuss about the next general elections. We are ready to this end. But there is scope for discussion on the supportive government issue,” he added. The programme was also addressed, among others, by former State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, BSJ General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, BSJ leader Shahjahan Alam Saju and ward commissioner Hasibur Rahman Manik. Hasan said there is no term of ‘Supportive Government’ in the constitution. The next election will be held under the present Election Commission and the present government will be in power during that period, he said. “We want to discuss with all, except war criminals, for betterment of the country, he added.Vice- President of the organisation Farhana Amin presided over the function.

A discussion on World Press Freedom Day organised by Bangladesh Online Media Association was held in the city on Wednesday. Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury was present as the chief guest. While speaking Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said present ruling party government is more mass-media friendly than the past. Present mass-media is working more freely. He urged all to watch as if nobody can misuse of the mass-media in the name of press freedom. He also said that nobody will be able to foil the advancement of online mass-media. He urged all the owners of the online mass media for the payment of salary of all online journalists properly as if they do not suffer from economical crises.
