A Dhaka court yesterday (Monday) placed one M Yusuf on a two-day remand in the Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi murder case for interrogation.
Magistrate Waaz Kurni Khan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing on Monday noon. Earlier in the day, Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Julhas Uddin Akan produced Yusuf to the court with a 5-day remand plea.
Law enforcers arrested him under section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code at Chauddagram upazila of Comilla district on Saturday night.
Miscreants, on Wednesday night (August 27) slaughtered Channel-I Islamic programme anchor Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi, who was also a Presidium Member of the Islami Front, to death at his East Razabazar residence in the city.
Victim’s son Faisal Faruqi filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station against eight to nine unnamed people. On August 31, CMM Court Magistrate Waaz Kurni Khan placed Mahmuda Khatun and Shariful Islam on a two-day remand each for their alleged involvement with the murder. Police arrested them at Murapara of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district in connection with the murder.
