Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote
A discussion on historic Mujibnagar Day organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) was held at Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha on the 18th instant. Awami League (AL) Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said the popularity of Bangladesh Awami League has increased to a great extent following the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “AL candidates got more votes than BNP candidates in different elections though the AL candidate was defeated in Comilla City Corporation,” he added. Hailing the BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s announcement of participating in the next general elections, Hasan said they (BNP) should apologize to the nation as they had killed many innocent people by throwing petrol bombs. The function was addressed, among others by former State Minister for Home Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, Vice-Chancellor of World University Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, AL Dhaka City South unit General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Joint Secretary Kamal Chowdhury. General Secretary of the organisation Arun Sarker Rana presided over the programme.
BD Auto Husking Mills Owners’ Assoc
A meeting of Bangladesh Auto Husking Mills Owners’ Association was held in the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city. Food Minister Quamrul Islam was present as the chief guest. While speaking Quamrul said stern action will be taken against those to be found involved in irregularities in rice and paddy procurement during this Boro season. “We want to bring a revolutionary change in the procurement drive. The government will purchase food grains directly from the growers through paying account payee cheque,” he said, adding “This initiative has been taken to motivate farmers,”. He said necessary steps will be taken so that middlemen cannot discourage the farmers during the procurement. The minister said the government will procure 7 lakh tonnes paddy, 8 lakh tonnes rice and one lakh tonne wheat in the Boro season. The procurement price for per kg paddy has been fixed at Taka 24, boiled rice at Taka 34, atap rice at Taka 33 and wheat at Taka 28. President of the Association Abdur Rashid presided over the function.
