Bangladesh Students’ Union
A rally was organised by Bangladesh Students’ Union at Madhu’s Canteen of Dhaka University on Tuesday marking its 64th founding anniversary. The rally paraded different roads of DU campus and terminated at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city. Marking the founding anniversary a discussion was held at Swoparjito Swadhinata Macha of the university. In the discussion the speakers said Bangladesh Students’ Union has played key role in revolutionary change in the history of Bangladesh’s students movement. The event was addressed, among others, by former President of Bangladesh Chhatra Union and President of Communist Party of Bangladesh Mujahidul Islam Selim, Chief Prosecutor of International Crime Tribunal Golam Arif Tipu, former leader of Students’ Union and DU teacher Tanjim Uddin Khan and President of the organisation, DU unit Liton Nandi. Laki Aktar, leader of the organisation presided over the programme while its General Secretary GM Jilani Shuvo conducted the discussion. A cultural function was also held on the occasion.
JU Teachers Association
Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (JUTA) formed a human chain on the Central Shaheed Minar premises on the campus on Tuesday demanding arrest of the killers of Rajshahi University teacher Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee. Condemning the brutal killing JUTA wore black badges and observed one hour work abstention from 9.30 am to 10.30 am. JUTA members also placed a memorandum to the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam for submitting it to the Education Minister and Home Minister. In the programme the speakers expressed deep concern over the killing of RU teacher and demanded proper investigation into the killing. They also urged the government to ensure safety of all university teachers. JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam, Pro-VC Prof Dr Abul Hossain, JUTA President Prof Dr Ajit Kumar Majumder and Secretary Bashir Ahmed and over one hundred teachers participated in the human chain.
