Bangladesh Hawker Sangram Parishad
A rally organised by Bangladesh Hawker Sangram Parishad was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Thursday in protest against confiscating goods of the hawkers by the city corporation. In the rally the hawker leaders urged the authority concerned to take necessary steps for rehabilitation of the hawkers before their eviction. They demanded for implementation of verdict of the High Court. The function was addressed, among others, by Member Secretary of the organisation Sekendar Hayat, President of Chhinnamul Hawker Samity Kamal Siddique, hawker leaders Harun-ar-Rashid, Abul Hossain Kabir, Sarder Khorshed, Shafiqur Rahman Babul, Alamgir Talukdar and Khorshed Alam. Convenor of the parishad and also president of the rally Abul Hosain presided over the event. The parishad also brought out a procession which paraded different streets of the city to meet its demands.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote
A discussion marking the 98th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote was held on the 16th instatnt at the Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan blamed BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for patronizing militancy as a nationwide anti-militancy crackdown is underway. “She (Begum Zia) always encouraged militancy and they are carrying out subversive activities across the country,” he told. BNP-Jamaat-led 20-party alliance, he said, appears more active in creating unstable situation particularly when the country progresses smoothly. The function was addressed, among others, by former permanent representative of Bangladesh to United Nations Dr Abdul Momen, jote General Secretary Falguni Ahmed, Vice President Freedom Fighter Foyezuddin Mia, actors Khalequzzaman, Dilara Yeasmin and Dany Sidaq. Mahmud described BNP as a party “habituated to conspiracies” and said “it has still been hatching plots to expose the government to an awkward position”. “The mass people should be vocal against the conspiracy of BNP,” he said. A cake was cut later to mark the Bangabandhu’s birthday. President of the organisation actor Faruk Khan presided over the programme.
