Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad
A discussion marking birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organised by Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad (BSP) was held on Monday at the Jatiya Press Club in the city. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan said those who will not observe March 25 as the Genocide Day will be identified as ‘traitors’ to the nation. “The resolution for observing March 25 as the Genocide Day or Ganohatya Dibosh has been adopted unanimously in the Jatiya Sangsad, but the BNP has neither welcomed it nor made any comment on the issue,” he said. Hasan said the BNP-led 20-party alliance has become a platform of the anti-liberation forces as most of its leaders worked as collaborators of the Pakistani occupation forces.The platform of the anti-liberation forces led by the BNP has now turned into a militants’ alliance, he added.
The function was addressed, among others, by All European Awami League General Secretary M A Goni and President of the parishad M Jinnat Ali Khan Jinnah. Advisor of the organisation Chittaranjan Das presided over the programme.
Kidney Awareness Monitoring
and Prevention Society
A rally organised on the occasion of World Kidney Day by Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), a leading voluntary organisation was brought out on the 9th instant at different parts of the city. Beginning from the IDEB Bhaban, Kakrail in the city, the rally paraded Paltan, Matijheel, Shahbag, Mohakhali, Farmgate, TSC, Moghbazar, Baily Road areas bearing festoons, placards, banners with awareness raising slogans on kidney diseases. The rally was led by Chief Consultant of Kidney Department, Labaid Specialised Hospital and Chairman of KAMPS, Prof. Dr. MA Samad while representatives from professional segment of the society took part in the rally. A street meeting was held at the end of the rally. Professor Samad and some renowned persons addressed the street meeting. Addressing the street meeting, Prof. Samad said one third people in the world are overweight, around 67 crore people are obese, which is risky for lot many killing diseases. One fourth people in Bangladesh are suffering from obesity, according to WHO people die from diseases caused by overweight or over eating is much more than die from malnutrition.
