Sramajibi Nari Moitri
A discussion organiesd on the occasion of International Women’s Day by Sramajibi Nari Moitri was held on Wednesday in the auditorium of Janaganotantra, a monthly magazine in the city’s Topkhana Road. In the programme the speakers said ‘No emancipation of society is possible without emancipation of women’. They said that social rights will not be established until the equal rights of women is established in the family, society and state. If not so, social equity will no be ensured, they added. The speakers called upon all women to forge united movement in establishing women’s rights and their dignity. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party Saiful Haque, General Secretary of the Sramajibi Nari Moitri Rashida Begum, Central leaders of the organisation Snigdha Sultana Eva, Mukta Begum, Ruksana Akhter, Hasina Miru, Roksana Tuli, Sonia Noor and Managing Editor of the Janaganotantra magazine Akbor Khan. President of the organisation Bahnishikha Jamali presided over the discussion.
Sightsavers
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Sightsavers and Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Eye Hospital & Training Institute including three hospitals and eight NGOs operating health facilities recently at a restaurant in the city’s Dhanmondi. Country Director of Sightsavers for Bangladesh Khondoker Ariful Islam, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof AHM Enayet Hossain, Line Director of National Eye Care Prof Golam Mostafa and Renowned Eye specialist Prof Deen Mohammad Nurul Huq spoke at the event on the poor eyecare situation in Bangladesh. The public hospitals entering into the agreement are Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Eye Hospital & Training Institute, Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Mymensigh Medical college & Hospital, while the partner NGOs are Quasem Foundation (QF), Community Eye Care & Research Centre (CECRC), Prof MA Matin Memorial BNSB Base Eye Hospital, Khulna BNSB Eye Hospital, Dristidan Eye Hospital, Ad-din Welfare Centre, Dhaka Progressive Lions Eye Hospital, and Dr KZ BNSB Eye Hospital.Sightsavers is an international NGO that works with partners in developing countries to treat and prevent avoidable blindness and promote equality for people with visual impairments and other disabilities.
