A discussion organised jointly by Muktijuddher Chetona Bastabayan Mancha and Mukitjoddah Jubo Command was held on the 28th ultimo at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) auditorium in the city. Awami League Presidium Member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim was present as the chief guest. While speaking Nasim urged the countrymen to re-elect the Awami League in the next general election for continue uninterrupted development in the country.”There is no alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to maintain the development pace,” said the minister. The minister said Begum Khaleda Zia has supported those who brought militancy in the country, adding they had killed people through firing and burning and so people no more want to see them in power. “The people will vote for the Awami League in the next general election for maintaining the pace of development,” he said. Informing that the election would be held as per the constitution, Nasim said Sheikh Hasina will be the chief of the election time government as it is impossible to go beyond the constitution. Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan also spoke at the function, among others. Chairman of the Mukitjoddah Jubo Command Nazrul Islam Bachchu presided over the function.
 Room to Read Bangladesh
A seminar on ‘Enhancing Children’s Reading Skills and Reading Habit: Need for Concerted Efforts’ organised jointly by Room to Read Bangladesh (RtR-BD), an international NGO and Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) was held recently in the auditorium of DPE on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. In the seminar the speakers called for taking necessary initiatives to build the reading habit and reading skills of primary level students to unlock their full potential. Creativity and thinking ability of students at primary level will be flourished, if they read different kinds of books on diverse knowledge. Director General of DPE Dr. Md. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Assistant Director General of DPE, Sultan Mahmud and Country Director of Room to Read Bangladesh Rakhi Sarkar, among others, addressed the seminar. Emeritus Prof of BRAC University Prof Dr Manzur Ahmed presented the keynote paper at the seminar. While speaking Kamal said, ‘Alongside reading of textbooks, students of primary level have to read different kinds of books on diverse knowledge to become worthy citizens of the country’.

Prof Manzur Ahmed stressed on building a strong foundation in mother language amongst early grade children to flourish their latent talent.
