Jatiya Ganotantrik League
A rally organised by Jatiya Ganotantrik League was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Sunday. In the rally the speakers greeted President Abdul Hamid for presenting the new Election Commission for the nation through the search committee. They also congratulated election commissioners including Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda. The speakers said that there is no controversy centering the new election commission. They urged all political parties to participate in the next election under this Election Commission to establish democracy, rule of law and peace in the country for the greater interest of the people. The function was addressed, among others, by President of the organisation MA Jalil, General Secretary of Chandrabati Foundation Rokonuddin Pathan, Kazi Masud Ahmed of Kazi Aref Foundation, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Humayun Kabir and President of Muktijoddha Palli Society Alamgir Sheikh. Chairman of NAP-Bhasani MA Bhasani presided over the programme.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote
A memorial meeting on veteran parliamentarian and AL leader Suranjit Sengupta organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote was held at the Jatiya Press Club on the 10th instant. Health and Family Welfare Minister and also Awami League Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim was present as the chief guest. While speaking Nasim said BNP is out to get benefit through creating controversy over the newly formed Election Commission (EC). “BNP leaders usually react very negatively at first. But if BNP wins in polls they keep mum while BNP loses in election they allege vote-rigging,” he added. Speaking on the occasion, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan urged all to remain alert against the forces who wanted to do revolution by creating militant forces. The AL leaders paid rich tributes to the late leader Suranjit Sengupta saying that his death was really an irreparable loss in the political arena. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman,, Muhibur Rahman Manik, MP, General Secretary of Mahanagar Awami League Shahe Alam Murad, General Secretary of the jote Arun Sarker Rana and Vice-President of the organisation Dr Enamul Haque. Executive President of the jote Syed Hasan Imam presided over the event.
