Disabled Rehabilitation & Research Assoc
A discussion on ‘Growing awareness on disability and media campaign’ organised by Disabled Rehabilitation and Research Association (DRRA) was held at Daulatpur Girls’ High School in Manikganj on Thursday. In the function the speakers urged the affluent section of the society to come forward to assist the disabled people to grow up them as working skilled person for the welfare of the nation. The disabled are not the burden of the society and they may grow up as natural assets with the help of the people as well as the government, the speakers opined. The programme was addressed, among others, by AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy, MP, Manikganj-1 as the chief guest, Upazila Chairman of Daulatpur Tozammel Huque Toja, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shafiur Rahman, Secretary of Niketan, a Netherlands funded NGO Enoniate Thurmosweeden and Project Coordinator of DRRA Dalima Rahman on the occasion. Representative of DRRA Debesh Das presided over the programme. The event was ended with a cultural function participated by the disabled persons.
DU Sangskritik Sangsad
A prize giving ceremony on a cultural competition organised jointly by DU Sangskritik Sangsad and DU Teachers Students Center was held recently at the TSC auditorium of the university. A total of 531 students took part in the competition. Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the chief guest. While speaking Arefin said the cultural renaissance must be created among the young generation to resist the religious fundamentalism, militancy and social unrest. Stressing on the expansion of cultural activities Prof Siddique said, “There is no alternative to resist the religious militancy without creating cultural renaissance among the young generation of the country,” he added. The programme was addressed, among others, by DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Moderator of DU Sangskritik Sangsad Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, Moderator of DU Debating Society Dr Mahbuba Nasrin and Moderator of DU Mime Action Dr Father Tapan Kamilus D Rozario. After discussion Arefin distributed prizes among the winners of the competition.
