Swajon
Leaders of Swajon, an organisation of Hindu journalists in a statement on Friday demanded exemplary punishment to the attackers who torched some houses of Hindus at Narsirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria. The leaders of the organisation strongly condemned the attack and urged the government to ensure security of Hindus across the country. They also demanded to the government to compensate the victim families and reconstruct the damaged temples at Nasirnagar immediately. The leaders of the organisation including Shyamol Dutta, Ajoy Dasgupta, Monoj Kanti Roy, Swapan Dutta, Modhusudhan Mandal, Santosh Sharma, Pronab Saha, Subas Chandra Badol, Ashish Saikat, Rahul Raha, Tapon Biswas and Kalyan Saha made the demand. It may be mentioned that miscreants reportedly set ablaze six houses of Hindus at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria district.
Wangala Utsab Parishad
A nabanna festival organised by Wangala Utsab Parishad, an organisation of Garo community was held at Banani Model School ground in the city on Friday. Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest. While speaking Quader warned of stern actions against the culprits who were behind the attacks on the Hindus in Brahmanbaria district. The minister categorically said the government went tough on the attacks on minority people, their houses and temples and would face such attacks with an iron hand. He called upon the Garo community people not to consider themselves as a minority group as they have equal rights. “People of all communities including Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists are same and equal.The function was also attended, among others, by Awami League Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Jewel Arang, MP and AL leader Remond Areng. Nakma Durjoy Taju of Wangala Utsab Parishad presided over the programme.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal

A meeting with leaders and activists of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal was held at Kushtia circuit house on Friday. In the programme Information Minister and also President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said General Ziaur Rahman had nurtured poison of communalism by patronizing anti-liberation forces. Describing “BNP as a poisonous tree”, he said, “BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is still continuing the trend of communal politics as she is hatching conspiracy to foil trial of war criminals.” BNP Chairperson is now a threat to democracy as she is patronizing the militants and terrorists, Inu commented. The minister said a vested quarter had tried to make Bangladesh a failed state like Pakistan through protecting and patronizing killers of four national leaders.
