Nirapod Sarak Chai
A rally organised by Nirapod Sarak Chai (NSC), an organization working for safe road, was brought out in the city on Saturday marking the National Road Safety Day.As part of the programme NSC brought out a procession from Shilpakala Academy and hold a rally at Muktangaon. The procession paraded different thoroughfares of the city including Kakrail intersection, Bijoynagar and Paltan areas. The movement for NSC (We Demand Safe Road) began in 1993 after the wife of film actor Ilias Kanchan was killed in a tragic road mishap.
Sandhani Donor Club
The 25th founding anniversary (silver Jubilee) of Sandhani Donor Club, Faridpur was held on Friday amidst jubilation at Ambica Memorial Hall in the town. Maruf Hassan, Secretary of the club, gave a brief resume of the organization which voluntarily collects blood from the donor particularly from the students of educational institutions and donate those blood to the dying patients. Secretary in his speech mentioned that since its establishment mainly the students have been working for the group completely on a voluntary basis. The organisation had collected 3150 bags of blood during last year in the district. The function was chaired by the club President Dr Mostafizur Rahman Shamim while Civil Surgeon Dr. Arun Kanti Biswas, Pourasabha Mayor Sheikh Mahatab Ali Methu, Vice-Presidents Dr Ali Akbar Howladar and Dr Mushfiqur Rahman Sakib were the special guests. At the function, the highest individual donors of blood Jagatjibon Saha donated 65 bags of B+ positive group blood, Saidul Islam 45 bags of AB+ group, Bivash Dutta 42 bags of B+ group and Habiba Khondoker 18 bags of A+ donated blood. They were awarded crests. Three eminent social workers Dr. Md. Zahed (posthumous), Prof Sk. Abdus Samad, Secretary of Faridpur Diabetic Association, and Prof M.A. Samad Secretary of Faridpur Muslim Mission were awarded for their contribution to the society. A cake weighing 25 pounds was also cut ceremonially on the occasion.
Coastal Dev Partnership
Different organisations including Coastal Development Partnership and Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihood organised a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Friday. In the programme the speakers stressed the confidence building initiative among the LDC / MVC group by Bangladesh delegation. They also said the LDC and MVC interest must not be superseded by the interest of advance developing countries like China and India.
