Quality Assurance Proposal (QAP) call for establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in 15 universities of the country was invited under QAP-IQAC ROUND-4. Quality Assurance Unit of UGC invited the proposal at a ceremony held at UGC on Monday. Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC attended the function as the Chief Guest while Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC was Special Guest on the occasion. Prof Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assurance Unit, UGC, delivered the address of welcome. Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, ndc, Project Director, Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) presided over the function. Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, QA Specialist gave the vote of thanks. While speaking as the Chief Guest, Prof Mannan said that establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at university level will significantly contribute to the enhancement of quality at tertiary level. He also said that expansion of higher education has taken place in the country over the years. Now we have to infuse quality in education especially at tertiary level. Prof Yousuf Ali Mollah observed that the best practices in teaching, learning, research and governance should be maintained and recorded for establishing quality culture at university level. The universities which were invited for submitting proposal included National University, Bangladesh Open University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalgonj, Barisal University, Bangladesh University of Professionals, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Maritime University, University of Development Alternative, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, University of Information Technology and Sciences, Prime University, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology, Metropolitan University, Sylhet, City University, Fareast International University and BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology.
Green University of Bangladesh
The 3rd executive board meeting of the Foundation for Learning, Teaching, and Research (fLTR) was held at Green University of Bangladesh recently. This is a collective initiative of reputed nine private universities under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury for influencing and improving teaching and learning practices and preparing competent, ethically driven and learners centered professional teachers, trainers, administrators, managers and researchers at the university level. The members of the LTR are Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC, UAP; Prof Syed Saad Andaleeb, VC , BRAC University; Prof M. Rezwan Khan,VC , UIU; Prof Abdur Rab, VC , Eastern University; Professor A. M. M. Safiullah, VC , AUST; Professor YousufMahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University; Prof M Omar Rahman, VC , IUB; Prof Imran Rahman, VC , ULAB; Prof Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, VC , Green University of Bangladesh. VC of Green University is also working as Secretary of the Foundation. The foundation is taking an initiative to offer a three days certificate course on Teaching for Active Learning designed for the newly recruited teachers of private and public universities of Bangladesh. The course will be facilitated on workshop mode and will run for three full working days which deals with fundamental requirements for teaching and learning at the university level. The foundation is also planning to offer diploma courses in near future, says a press release.
BIJEM
The certificate awarding ceremony of a two training courses on ‘TV Journalism’ and ‘TV News Presentation’ conducted by Bangladesh Institute of Journalism and Electronic Media (BIJEM) held on Tuesday at the institute. Maj Gen (Retd) Md Abdur Rashid, Security Analyst and Executive Director, Institute of Conflict, Law and Development Studies (ICLDS) was present as Chief Guest and distributed certificates among the participants. Chief guest said, TV Journalists and News presenters’s should have vast knowledge on news, current affairs and presentation techniques. Proper and modern training can improve their skill. Philanthropist Lion Ulfat Ara Khatun, Managing Director of Alam Brothers Lion Haji Md Shah Alam Chowdhury, Managing Director of Binimoy Printers Mir Ahasan Ali were present as special guests. BIJEM Executive Director Mirza Tarequl Qader presided over the function. The courses were conducted by renowned TV news presenters, TV journalist and phoneticians. A total of 48 participants including 24 female students of different public and private universities and colleges, took part in the courses.
