Bangladesh Students’ Union
A discussion organised on the occasion of Education Day by Bangladesh Students’ Union was held on Saturday at Muktibhaban in the city’s Purana Palton. In the programme the speakers demanded of the government to formulate proper education policy. They called upon all to resist all anti-education conspiracies. In the discussion the leaders of the organisation were urged to build greater movement in all educational institutions in protest against commercialization of the education. The programme was addressed, among others, by educationist Prof AN Rasheda, one of the organizers of 1962 Education Movement Comrade Haider Akbar Khan Rano and Vice-President of the union Al Amin. General Secretary of the organisation GM Gilani Shuva conducted the discussion. President of Bangladesh Students’ Union Laki Akhter presided over the function.
Bangladesh Cycle Lane Implementation Council
A cycle rally organised by Bangladesh Cycle Lane Implementation Council was held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city on Saturday. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the rally. The organisation arranged the rally marking the World Cycling Day. In the programme the speakers demanded separate lane for cycling.
Department of Social Service
The government distributed over Taka 2.55 crore as disable allowance among 4,252 beneficiaries in Joypurhat district during the last fiscal 2015-2016. The Department of Social Service (DSS), Joypurhat distributed the allowance among the physically challenged people at the rate of Taka 500 per month in the district.The DSS distributed the allowance in four phases and each beneficiary got Taka 6,000 as one-year allowance (July 2015 to June 2016). Deputy Director of DSS Salim Saha said allowance distribution programme for people with disability is a successful initiative of the present government and the beneficiaries got their respective allowances timely through their own bank accounts.
