Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
The programmes on 41st martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day organised by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) was observed on Monday in a befitting manner. Marking the day, national and BDRCS flags were hoisted at half-mast by BDRCS Management Council members Rehana Ashiqur Rahman and Razia Sultana respectively at BDRCS National Headquarters at 7 am. Later, BDRCS directors and other officials led by its Deputy Secretary General Khondokar Jakaria Khaled placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 32, Dhanmondi in the city. Besides, a discussion will be organised marking the day at the training hall of the society on August 18 where Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Shiddique will be present as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajote
A roundtable on ‘Extremism, communalism and role of the state’ organised by Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajote was held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Saturday. In the programme the speakers bitterly criticized terror attacks on the people of minority community and others at different places of the country. They urged the government to take necessary steps to protect the lives and properties of the religious minorities. The speakers also called upon all to be united against extremism and communalism for the greater interest of the nation. The event was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda, Secretary General of the organisation Govinda Chandra Pramanik, journalist Kazi Siraj, freedom fighter Monoranjan Ghosal and Mridul Maharaj of the city’s Ramakrishna Mission. Advocate Dinabandhu Roy presided over the function.
