A certificate distribution ceremony among the trained drivers organised by ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’, a non-government organisation was held in the auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest. While addressing the minister said restoration of discipline in the road transport sector is now a big challenge for the government to prevent road accidents.”The government has been working relentlessly to restore discipline in road transport sector. It’s not a big challenge to construct four-lane, eight-lane highways, metro railway, flyovers and large bridges as these won’t help bring down accidents to zero level. It only requires restoration of discipline in this sector,” he said. ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ Driving and Mechanical Training Institute imparted driving training to a total of 400 drivers. Out of the total trained drivers, 200 received certificates at the function in the first phase.
The programme was also addressed, among others, by Founder-President of Biswa Sahitya Kendro Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Nazrul Islam and Executive Director (Public Relations and Media) of Walton Humayn Kabir.
