A discussion on ‘World Press Freedom Day’ organized by Bangladesh Online Media Association (BOMA) was held on Saturday at the National Press Club in the city. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said the government would finalise the policy for the country’s online news portals soon. “Discussion and review on the policy for online news portals is going on. I hope the policy would be published as early as possible after finalizing it shortly,” he said. The minister said policy is necessary at this moment as the number of online news portals in the country has increased.
Inu said free media is not an opponent of the government, rather it is an associate force. National Press Club President Kamal Uddin Sabuj, BOMA Adviser Journalist Nayeemul Islam Khan and IT expert Mostafa Jabbar also spoke on the occasion. BOMA President Jayanta Acharjee presided over the discussion.
