Sanjukta Mohila Parishad
A rally organised by Sanjukta Mohila Parishad (SMP) was held in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city on the occasion of International Women’s Day. In the rally the speakers called upon all patriotic and conscious citizens to be united against killing of children and repression on women, acid violence, dowry system and eve teasing. They also urged the authority concerned to take necessary steps for adequate mass transport for women and six months maternity leave. After the rally a procession brought out by the organisation paraded different city streets to realize their demands. The event was addressed, among others, by President of Bangladesh Sanjukta Sramik Federation Mosaddek Hossain Swapon, Vice-President Harunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Nazrul researcher and President of Agnibina HM Siraj, General Secretary of the organisation Bina Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary Afroza Akhter and President of Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation Baharane Sultan Bahar. President of SMP Jannat Fatema presided over the programme.
Muktijoddha Sangsad
Leaders of Muktijoddha Sangsad, Awami League and public representatives of Netrakona in a statement on Wednesday hailed the supreme court verdict upholding the Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali’s death penalty awarded earlier by International Crimes Tribunal for committing crimes against humanity. They also demanded speedy execution of the Supreme Court judgement saying that the nation could be freed from the stigma after execution of the verdict. Those who issued the statements included President of the AL Netrakona district unit Motiur Rahman Khan, General Secretary of the unit and freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, Mayor of Netrakona Pourasava Nazrul Islam Khan and commander of district Muktijoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin.
