A seminar on ‘Increasing Shrimp Farming and Removing Relevant Obstacles’ organised jointly by Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) and BPC was held at Hotel Purbani in the city. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Chanda said a feasibility study on Vannamei shrimp farming will be carried out in the country soon. “We will take measures to farm this particular shrimp species on an experimental basis alongside Baghda, so that we can compete with other shrimp producing countries,” he added. Expressing his concern over the fall in shrimp farming, the minister said it is necessary for the nation to make progress in the sector as Bangladesh earns foreign currencies by exporting shrimp. President of the association Amil Ullah presided over the event. The function was also addressed, among others, by Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque and Cox’s Bazar-2 lawmaker Ashek Ullah Rafique.
