BD Construction Workers Union
A discussion organised by Bangladesh Construction Workers Union (BCWU) to handover cheques to needy workers was held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the city’s Kakrail. Environment and Forest Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud was present at the programme held on Saturday. While speaking Anisul said the government would take effective steps to ensure safety, compensation and insurance for the construction workers. The minister urged its leaders to bring their organisation within a structure. “The construction workers are the architects to build beautiful towns and the country, but they themselves live very humble lives. They don’t get any appointment letter. If they work, they get paid, if they miss work even for a single day, they have to go hungry. So they have to be brought under a structure,” the minister said. The function was addressed, among others, by Najmul Haque Pradhan, MP. President of the organisation Robiul Islam presided over the event.
