Women for Good Governance
A human chain organised by Women for Good Governance was formed in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city on Wednesday. In the programme the speakers demanded immediate arrest and trial of the killer(s) of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Victoria College. The human chain was addressed, among others, by Dr Dilara Chowdhury, Dhaka University teacher and a noted lawyer Barrister Halim, Sheuly Sultana Ruby and labour leaders Iqbal Kabir and Fahima Sultana. Chief Coordinator of the organisation Rubi Amatulla presided over the event.
Bangabandhu Academy
A discussion titled ‘Current politics’ organised by Bangabandhu Academy was held in the auditorium of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the city’s Kakrail. Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling party Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While addressing Hasan said BNP will be isolated from grassroots level if it boycotts the ongoing Union Parishad (UP) polls. About BNP’s recent dialogue proposal, Hasan said, “Excepting any party of war criminals, we are ready to sit for talks with any political party for the sake of progress of the country. Talks can also be held with BNP but prior to talks it should have to sever links with war criminals and militants, he added. The programme was also addressed, among others, by lawmaker Shirin Nahin Poonam, Samyabadi Dal leader Haroon Chowdhury and freedom fighter Abdul Hye Kanu. Adviser of the academy Imdadul Haque Selim presided over the event.
