Green and civil rights activists with senior politicians urged the government not to appoint any controversial consulting firm for the Payra Sea Port violating the existing rules and Public Procurement Rules (PPR). Leaders of the six organisations and 6 eminent citizens issued a statement on Saturday . They also called for re-tendering to appoint a capable and acceptable consultant for the new established Payra Sea Port in Patuakhali. The statement alleged that the tender was floated before the approval of allocation for the appointment of consultant which is a violation of the PPR. Besides, a condition was imposed in the tender that only the consulting firm having its leader with experience as ship surveyor can participate in the biding, which also goes against the PPR and the existing rules, they said. Enamul Hoque Molla, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolan (BAPA) Joint Secretary Mihir Biswas, Green Club of Banglades President Adv Hasan Tarique Chowdhury, Bangladesh Jatri Adhikar Sangrakkhon Porishad president Tusar Rehman and Nirapad Sarak O Noupath Bastobayon Jote Member Secretary Rafiqul Islam Sabuj.
Water Aid , Bangladesh
A memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) between Dhaka University and Water Aid , Bangladesh was signed at the VC’s office yesterday. Treasurer of DU Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin and Country Representative of Water Aid , Bangladesh Dr Md khairul Islam signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Chief Executive of Water Aid, UK were among others on the occasion.

According to MoU, a modern toilet will be built at TSC premises of Dhaka University with the financial assistance and technical support from Water Aid, says a press release.

Roche Bangladesh

With the tagline of We can, I can’, the World Cancer Day was observed on Thursday. International pharmaceutical company Roche Bangladesh celebrated the Day. On the occasion , Roche Bangladesh organised a roundtable at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city . Cancer Specialist Prof Mofazzel Hossain, Prof Selim Reza, Singers Bappa Mojumdar, John Kabir, Elita Karim and members of cancer survivor family as well Roche Bangladesh officials and media personals were, among others, present at the meeting. The speakers discussed on the prevention of the diseases as well as the treatment of the affected individuals and their families.
Initially the experts focused on the detection of the disease at primary stage to prevent it. They said the main problem of the victim of cancer in Bangladesh is keeping themselves hide from physicians at primary level. The physician said, the treatment of cancers in now available in Bangladesh. The detection of the disease in important here to fight. The discussion was came to an end with a massage keeping healthy life, Reduce risk of cancer.
