Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority Rear Admiral Zulfikar Aziz said, the operational activities in the newly under constructed Patenga Container Terminal is expected to begin from Mujib Year . The PCT is being build aimed at handling of 4 lakh TEUs containers .
Fifty two percent construction works of the terminal already completed. Port Chairman disclosed it while addressing a press conference arranged at Bandan Bhaban yesterday afternoon.
Port chairman said in the 600 meters long PCT, three vessels with 190 meters long and 10 meters drafts and one oil tanker of 20 meters long may be anchored at a time in the terminal. The storing capacity of the terminal is about 4000 TEUs containers which is situated over 15 acres of land.
 Meanwhile, Port Chairman mentioned about the ongoing construction works of yard, truck terminal and boundary wall of the proposed Bay Terminal. He said govt khas land of 803 acres has been allotted to Port Authority for Bay Terminal and very shortly these lands will be handed over formally to port authority by deputy commissioner, Chattogram very shortly. Port chairman further apprised that construction of Bay Terminal is expected to be completed by 2015.
This mega terminal will have one 1500 meters long Multipurpose Terminal and 1225 & 830meters long container terminal . . Port chief also said after completion of the Bay Terminal construction, vessels of any drafts will get advantages of berthing in the terminal round the clock rather waiting for sea tide .
He also presented the success of the port before the media persons saying handling of 30.88 lakh TEUs containers in 2019 with GDP of 6.34 percent and general cargo handled 10.30 crores tons.
Now CP has storing capacity of 50 thousand containers. Rear Admiral Aziz further said there is a proposal for contracting a terminal at Sitakunda to give support of the Bangabnandhu SilpaNagar in Mirsarai which is under process.
He said port limit has been extended upto 50 nautical miles from 7 nautical miles for which the maritime boundary increased by 6 times more.
Among others Port members Md. ZafarAlam, Commodore Shafiul Bari, Capt Mohidul Hasan, Director (Admn) Mominur Rashid, Secretary Omar Faruk, Director (Traffic) Md. Enamul Karim were present in the press meet.
